GENESEO – The Mount Morris Blue Devils handed the Geneseo Blue Devils their second straight conference loss at home Friday night with a final score of 59-48.
Geneseo jumped out to a quick lead and held Mount Morris to just 3 points in the 1st quarter. In the 2nd, Mount Morris began to close the gap thanks to 3 3-pointers, two made by junior guard Bubba Maldonado and one from senior guard Andrew Maracle. Mount Morris outscored Geneseo 23-11 in the 2nd to bring the team within one. Mount Morris took firm control of the game in the 3rd quarter and never looked back.
“We’re playing the way we know how to play,” said Geneseo Assistant Coach Morgan Gunther. “I’m not going to make any excuses. We’ve been struggling with fouls so we have to work on staying out of foul trouble, and we have a few players out right now so depth has been an issue.”
Geneseo’s top scorers included senior center Jake Clar with 17 points and senior guard Sam Johnson with 10. The top scorers for Mount Morris were junior guard Bubba Maldonado with 14 points and 4 3-pointers, senior guard Andrew Maracle with 12 points off 4 3-pointers and senior guard Kyle Regal with 12 points.
Geneseo is now 9-5 overall with a 6-3 league record; Mount Morris is now 11-6 overall with a 3-4 league record.
Geneseo’s next game is at home against Le Roy on Wednesday February 4 at 7p.m. Mount Morris returns to action on Saturday February 7 at 7:30 p.m. to take on York in the Coaches vs. Cancer game.
