GENESEO — With more than half of their total points coming from behind the three-point line, the Geneseo Blue Devils – who were also celebrating Senior Night – defeated the Keshequa Indians 71-40 Wednesday night.
Senior guard Dalton VanKleeck had 15 points, all from behind the three-point arc, and senior forward Elton Johnson came off the bench to add 13 points.
“[Johnson]’s been hurt and he’s missed a few games lately, so it was nice to get him back in. We’re gradually bringing him back in so we can start him again in sectionals,” Geneseo head coach Brian Stout said.
The Blue Devils led by three after the first quarter, and proceeded to pull away in the second. Johnson and VanKleeck combined to hit three three-pointers in the quarter, and the zone defense that Stout switched to held the Indians to just 11 points.
“In the second quarter we started finishing… we picked it up inside,” Stout said.
Senior Mo Carlon, who seemed to have more responsibility with the absence of fellow senior guard Bryan Rollins (out for the season with a broken ankle), had 14 points at point guard.
“They’re a great crew to work with,” Stout said about his seniors. “They do anything I can ask for. They do it all on the court.”
Geneseo (13-5) will take on this same Keshequa team at home on Feb. 18th for the first round of sectionals.
