PAVILION — The Geneseo boys’ basketball team racked up another win Tuesday night, defeating the Pavilion Golden Gophers, on the road, 63-43.
The game remained close through the first half, with the Blue Devils only leading 33-28 at halftime. After the intermission, the Blue Devils were able to get better offensive production and limit the litany of turnovers they had in the first half to secure the victory.
Head coach Brian Stout didn’t believe it was his team’s strongest showing.
“It wasn’t our best, but it was good enough for tonight,” Stout said. “We just finished a little better, in the second half, we were missing a lot of layups, I think we had 10-11 missed shots inside the paint, in the first half, and we did a much better job of going up strong and attacking the basket in the second half.”
The Blue Devils’ up-tempo style allowed them to pull away from the Golden Gophers, as the team was paced by 17 points from junior guard Mo Carlon and 15 points from junior guard Bryan Rollins.
While the Blue Devils improve to 4-0, Stout thought the team might have been looking forward to their matchup on Friday— at SUNY Geneseo against the York Golden Knights.
“The guys are real amped up for it, in fact, I think that had a little to contribute today,” Stout said. “At practice yesterday, some of the players were talking about Friday and looking past tonight a little bit, which you can never do in our league.”
Carlon agreed with Stout’s statement.
“Yeah, for me personally, I can’t wait for Friday, because it’s going to be a big game,” Carlon said. “For tonight, we wanted to take care of the performance, even though it wasn’t great, we just wanted to get a win and that’s what we came out to do. We had too many turnovers and didn’t make enough layups, but hopefully we can get it back for Friday.”
Geneseo (4-0) will take on the York Golden Knights at SUNY Geneseo on Friday at 7:30.
