GENESEO – The Geneseo Blue Devils had a strong outing Friday night to handily defeat the Keshequa Indians 69-56.
The Blue Devils were led by Zach Clar with 22 points, followed by Sam Johnson with 20 and Marcus Griffin with 10. The Indians were led by Gavin Duryea with 23 points, followed by Austin Schmidt with 20.
The game got off to a slow start with both teams tentative in possession. The Blue Devils distinguished themselves early with strong play under the net battling for rebounds. During the 2nd quarter the defensive nature of the game became clear. Most shots were tightly contested, but the Blue Devils managed to break through and take their first lead of the game with 4 minutes left in the 1st half.
The Blue Devils continued to build on their lead throughout the 3rd quarter, led by a barrage of 3’s from senior guard Sam Johnson and junior guard Zach Clar. The Blue Devils’ offensive push allowed them to build an 8-point lead going into the 4th quarter.
The Blue Devils continued to control the game in the 4th quarter. They continued to play tough under the rim, with junior center Marcus Griffin and senior forward Jake Clar getting a couple of offensive rebounds which led to easy put-backs.
The Blue Devils next game is at home against World of Inquiry on Tuesday, February 10 at 7p.m. The Indians next game is at home against Haverling on Monday, February 9 at 7p.m.
