CAL-MUM – The Cal-Mum Red Raiders mounted an impressive comeback after being down by 13 at the half to earn a 62-54 home victory against the Geneseo Blue Devils and maintain their undefeated league record.
Beneath the roar of the Raider Regime, the Red Raiders were led by senior forward Will Van Auken, who had 17 points and 14 rebounds, and senior guard Mitch Cicero with 16 points, 7 rebounds, 8 assists and 8 steals. Senior guard Kyle Preston contributed to the win with nine points of his own. The Blue Devils were led by junior guard Zach Clar with 12 points and junior center Marcus Griffin with 11 points and 19 rebounds.
“We turned the ball over too often in the 2nd half and gave away some key possessions. We also got into a bit of foul trouble down the stretch,” said Blue Devils head coach Brian Paganin. “Ultimately, the team played hard for 32 minutes and I’m very proud of how hard they fought.”
The Blue Devils next game is at home against Mount Morris on January 30 at 7:30p.m.
“Our last game against Mount Morris was a tight one. They have a very athletic team so we’re going to have to take care of the ball better than we did tonight,” said Paganin. “Hopefully we’ll be able to come out with the win.”
The Red Raiders are now 12-1 overall with a perfect 6-0 league record; the Blue Devils are now 9-4 overall with a 6-2 league record.
