CALEDONIA — The Avon Braves defeated the Cal-Mum Raiders 43-28 in both teams first league game of the season.
For Avon, Connor Taylor led the Braves with 10 points. Aaron Ghent added 9 points and worked the boards for 22 rebounds.
The game had a special meaning to the Avon community as family of Gloria McKeown, who recently passed away, were in the crowd wearing t-shirts that read ‘I love Busia,’ which in Polish means ‘Grandma.’ Her grandson, Kyle Ellis plays for the Braves.
For Cal-Mum Ian Lenhardt had 10 points and 17 rebounds while Jon Boilard added 8 points.
“As well as we shot the ball Wednesday we were the total opposite tonight 1-18 from 3. A lot of credit goes to Avon for applying tough pressure defense on us,” stated Dan Dickens, Cal-Mum Coach. “We are going to need to get a lot tougher if we want to compete against the upper echelon of the league.”
