LIVINGSTON COUNTY – Raising awareness and funds for breast cancer research was the goal for the Livingston Blues Squirt B Hockey Team during the month of October.
The team held a month-long fundraiser, in which they sold pink acrylic bracelets reading “Livingston Blues Supports Breast Cancer Awareness,” the benefits of which go to the American Cancer Society.
According to Kristine Tenalio, the team sold over 100 of these bracelets, which means they were able to donate $300 to the American Cancer Society.
The group, also called Geneseo Youth Hockey, is governed by the same rules as USA Hockey. The group aims to promote youth participation in hockey, and to bolster the ideals of sportsmanship and team spirit.
The group also participates in other fundraisers during the year. The next will take place Saturday, November 8. The Squirt B Team will be the “tunnel team” for the Rochester Americans at 6:45 p.m in Blue Cross Arena. The team will also be participating in a mini game, held during the first intermission.
