GENESEO – The Geneseo Police Department is investigating counterfeit $20, $50 & $100 bills that have apparently been passed at multiple Main Street businesses.
According to Geneseo Police Chief Eric Osganian, someone attempted to pass fake $20 bills at the Key Bank on Main Street, and it is believed the bills have been also used at some businesses on Main Street.
“The bills should not be able to get passed, as they are not a real bill,” said Chief Osganian. “Please do not get confused by the Asian markings on them, they are fake.”
Chief Osganian added that the bills “feel fake compared to a real bill,” and have Asian writing on them in red on the front and back.
All of the fake $20 bills have the same serial number: EL32271341H.
All of the fake $50 bill have the same serial number: ID65114276A.
All of the $100 bills have the same serial number: PF03229158T.
Approximately $700 in fake bills ($20 ,$50, and $100 bills) were turned in to the University Police Department, so it is believed that more of these fake bills are in circulation.
The bills found are similar to the fake $20 bills that were attempted to be passed at Key Bank.
The US Secret Service has been contacted regarding this case.
Geneseo Police encourage anyone with information that could assist the investigation to contact Officer Daniel Piedmonte at email@example.com or 243-2420, Option #4.
Chief Osganian added that if someone attempts to pass a bill at your Main Street Geneseo business to please call 911 and request a Geneseo Police Officer to respond.
“We would like to identify the person(s) responsible,” added Chief Osganian.
