AVON – The Avon Town Board had a moment of silence Thursday night in memory of former Avon Town Supervisor, County Board of Supervisors Chairman, Avon Town Justice, and Avon Central School Board member Jim Steele.
According to Stephenson-Dougherty Funeral Home, Steele peacefully passed away surrounded by his family on Sept. 7, 2015 at age 85, after a short illness.
Born November 12, 1929, Steele was predeceased by his beloved wife, Kathryn Joan. Jim leaves behind his 4 children; Dan (Crystal) Steele, Sheri Brege, Sue (Randy) Meyer, Gary (Sheila) Steele; his sister, Betty (Chuck) Dyer; grandchildren, Jacob and Holly Steele, Chris (Sara) Brege, Ashley, Vicki and Eric Meyer, Amanda and Jimi Steele; and great grandchildren: Tyler, Colin, Marissa, Jackson, and Andon Brege; and Olivia Willison.
Steele was a farmer, member of Steele Brothers Trucking and Bulk Milk, member of the Upstate Milk Cooperative, and founder and builder of De-Pel Inc. in Avon, which dehydrated and Pelleted alfalfa.
He was Avon’s longest serving Town Supervisor.
Family and friends may call on Friday, Sept. 11 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Stephenson-Dougherty Funeral Home, Inc., 350 Genesee St., Avon.
His Funeral service will be held Saturday, Sept. 12 at 10 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 5605 East-Avon Lima Road. Interment will follow at East-Avon Cemetery.
