GENESEO— The granite fountain base that was sent to Vermont has returned to Geneseo in the form of paperweights, benches and award plaques.
The first of the approximately 1,000 paperweights will be auctioned off at the annual APOG beer and wine tasting on June 8. The other 999 will be available for purchase at many of the summer events held by the Village. The price for one of these paperweights will be $50.
“It’s twelve thousand pounds of granite so it’s a lot of granite,” said APOG board member Kurt Cylke. “You’re paying for each cut. so ether most economic way to cut it was in cubes.”
Cylke stated that APOG is donating granite fire department and Village Police for plaques.
In addition to the paperweights and plaques, the old fountain base has also been made into benches, at least one of which will be given to the village. The granite is currently being stored at the DPW building. The bench will be installed once the village trustee board decides on a location.
