GENESEO – SUNY Geneseo President Denise Battles announced Tuesday that the College will gather for a special meeting to ‘reaffirm the values that draw the Geneseo community together.’
On Saturday, Nov. 12, the College began investigating a graffitied swastika with the word ‘Trump’ painted inside a residence hall. Battles released the following statement to the campus via email on Tuesday, Nov. 15:
“To the Geneseo Community:
‘We at Geneseo embrace the value of inclusivity and work hard at fostering a diverse campus community that is marked by mutual respect for the unique talents and contributions of each individual. Prompted by recent events, a Campus Convening has been organized on Wednesday, November 16, as an opportunity to reaffirm the values that draw us – the Geneseo community – together.
‘Please join me, cabinet members and other key campus leaders during the All-College Hour (2:30 p.m. to 3:45 p.m.) as we discuss from our varied perspectives our commitment to ensuring that Geneseo remains a community that embraces the ideals of diversity, equity and inclusion. The convening will also offer an opportunity for attendees with questions or concerns to be introduced to and connect with College personnel who may assist them.
‘The event will take place in the MacVittie College Union ballroom. Please join me as we engage in this very important discussion in support of our campus community.
Sincerely,
Denise A. Battles
President”
