In today’s state qualifier, the Blue Devils came back from a 2-1 deficit to defeat the Mynderse Blue Devils 3-2.
Mynderse, behind a solid effort from starting pitcher Jared Coffee, led 2-1 going to the fifth inning. In the fifth, Geneseo got the bats going, getting RBI singles from leftfielder Tony Belfiore and shortstop Ben Kelly giving them the one-run lead, 3-2, that they would hold on to for the rest of the game.
Kelly struck out four batters in two innings of relief of starter Blake Phelps, who pitched five innings, allowing two runs.
With the win, Geneseo advances to regionals. Their opponent, location and time are to be announced.
