The World Health Organization recommends exclusive breastfeeding until a baby is six months old and continued breastfeeding with the addition of nutritious complementary foods for up to two years or beyond, to ensure that newborns are provided with the correct nutrients they need.
The Livingston County Department of Health collaborates with the Livingston/Wyoming representatives of the federal nutrition program Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) and the Genesee Valley Health Partnership to offer Certified Lactation Consultants, who can assist and support women who are breastfeeding as well as a Healthy Baby Café, which is Dansville’s drop in center that provides service and support for breastfeeding mothers.
