Pink shirts filled the Cole office Thursday during its first fundraising event of the season. The business has donated to the breast cancer walk for years, but 2015 marks the second year that they have hosted fundraisers.
“It’s good just to bring awareness,” said Pat Cole, co-founder and broker at the company, “regardless of where you are. We know a lot of people who have been affected.”
All are welcome to participate in breast cancer awareness on Thursday just by grabbing a yogurt-covered pretzel glazed with pink icing, or a turkey sandwich that, despite its faded pinkness, still echoes support for the cause.
The office is welcoming visitors through 7 p.m. Thursday evening.
A.B Cole is coming up with more ideas for future fundraisers. Other businesses in the Court Street Complex, such as the weight-loss support group Curves, pose as potential collaborators. A Zumba fundraiser, for example, may soon be on the horizon.
Elizabeth Wende Breast Care is also located in the Court Street Complex, and may participate in future fundraisers.
According to the National Cancer Institute, breast cancer is seen to be present in 12 percent of women born in the United States at some point in their lives.
Local energy and concern, however, compete with disease presence. The walk in Rochester is scheduled for Oct. 18, with 347 teams having already raised an upwards of $80,000.
