Avon to Receive New LED Streetlights

AVON— The Village of Avon has voted to switch their streetlights to LED.

This change comes from the fact that Avon is trying to be more energy efficient and that it is easier to control where the light form LED lighting shines. There is also a financial benefit for the village of Avon to switch to LED Lighting.

“Before there was a $36,000 maintenance cost from Niagra Mohawk and that was just the maintenance,” said Mayor Thomas Freeman. “With the new lights we won’t be paying anything for maintenance but we will pay them a renting fee for the poles, they  just won’t be maintaining our fixtures anymore.”

Mayor Freeman also said that with the new LED lights, the village will be able to make the sidewalks more visible as well as the streets.
