AVON – At the Avon Town Hall on Tuesday, Dr. Robert Tugel graciously accepted a plaque and thanks for 15 years of service on the Avon Town Planning Board, most of which he spent as Chair.
Tugel was Chair during some of Avon’s biggest and most challenging projects, and the Board thanked him for serving the community so long and so well.
“I’m definitely going to miss his leadership, we all will,” said Planning Board clerk Jennifer Sargent. “He has not only done great things as Chair but he’s one of the best people I know.”
Dr. Tugel, who has a degree in veterinary medicine and worked as an equine veterinarian before moving to Avon, attended his first meeting as a member of the Planning Board on June 1, 2000.
Since then, he has been Chair during the planning and development of the Royal Springs planned unit development, Crossroads Commerce Park, the Mobile Station by 390, Veterans Hall, and many other continuing projects.
Kathleen Cole, current Planning Board member, will now carry the torch as Chair.
“Kathleen has done a lot of work for us already,” said Sargent. “The transition has been smooth and we look forward to continuing the work we did with Bob.”
Malachy Coyne, former Planning Board member, will also be leaving the Planning Board to begin his term on the Avon Town Council.
