AVON- The Avon Lions Club is leasing American flags to residents of Avon for $35 a year. The new program, “The Patriot Project,” is designed to offset the club’s losses of revenue in recent years.

The Avon Lions no longer rents out tents and are currently trying to sell them. Tent rentals used to make $12,000 a year for the club, but due to time restrictions and the advancing age of their members, this is no longer an option for them.
“We purchase these flags from the Veterans Outreach Center in Rochester, and to date, we have rented a total of 175 flags to the local Avon community,” said Avon Lions Director Tim Cole. “After the Memorial Day display last week, many other residents expressed interest in obtaining a flag. It is the conservative goal of the club to rent 400-500 flags over the next year or two.”
Any resident in the town or village of Avon can rent a 5 foot by 3 foot nylon flag that stands 8.5 feet tall, to be erected in their front yard near the road.
Because the flags are so popular, the Lions are asking the entire club for help setting up and taking down flags. Cole says that his goal is to reach out to every member to ask them to set up and take down at least one flag holiday a year.
The rented flags will be displayed from sun up to sun down on the following holidays:
Memorial Day
Flag Day – June 14
July 4th
Patriots Day – September 11
Veteran’s Day – November 11
