AVON HOLIDAY SPECTACULAR SET FOR DEC 1
by Barbara Van Zandt
AVON – At the Oct. 9 Avon Village Board meeting, a group representing the Avon Holiday Spectacular came before the village board to ask for support, and to explain what they are planning. The Spectacular will be held on Dec. 1 from 3-7 p.m. and will be held community-wide. According to Ashley Comeau, who made a presentation to the Avon Village Board “This is a one-stop shopping evening. We’re hoping to have the stores open that night, along with vendors selling kettle corn, chili and hot chocolate as well as a lot of crafters in booths; their booth fees will be donated to local charities. There will be music on the circle, as well as Christmas decorations, luminaries, and people in period garb. The theater will be playing “It’s a Wonderful Life.” It is also hoped, since Scrooge is being planned at the school, that perhaps a group can come to perform a scene or song from the play.
There will be vendors at Avon Village Hall, as well as on the streets. Music will be in the park, and Genesee Street would be blocked off for that period, to facilitate the planned activities. “It’s just a fun night to get people to come down and walk around, see their friends, shop at the local businesses, maybe go out to dinner at one of the local restaurants, and make a night of it.”
The Spectacular is still being planned, and more vendors still be sought for the Dec. 1 date.
