LIVINGSTON COUNTY – The Rochester man who was arrested by the Livingston County Drug Task Force for selling heroin in Avon in November 2015 pled guilty to felony drug charges on Thursday.
Demitrus Johnson, 28, pled guilty to one count of felony Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree and agreed to serve the sentence recommended by Assistant District Attorney Victor Rowcliffe of 2 years in state prison and 2 years on parole. Recently hired Assistant Public Defender Brittney Bennett said that Johnson was of her first clients in her new position and that she has learned a lot from him.
“Mr. Johnson is one of the first cases that I took when I arrived in Livingston County,” said Bennett. “I have had multiple conversations with him, not only about the case but about the criminal justice system, race, and his family. He has twin girls and is prepared to come out from this as a better person in the end.”
During the operation, members of the Drug Task Force recovered 30 bags of heroin and just over $2,903 in cash in Johnson’s possession.
The arrest was handled by the Avon Police Department.
The Livingston County Drug Task Force is comprised of the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, Avon Police Department, Caledonia Police Department, Mount Morris Police Department, Nunda Police Department, Geneseo Police Department, Livingston County District Attorney’s Office, NYS Park Police, U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
