AVON — Community members look to replace the only existing playground in Avon with their Avon Community Playground Program.
John Marks and Avon Village Board Trustee William Zhe attended the Town of Avon’s board meeting Thursday where they introduced the Avon Community Playground Program to the board.
“We want to do this simply because of the children,” said Marks. “It is evident here that the children need a nice place to play.”
The Avon Community Playground Program is looking to replace the existing playground located at the Avon Driving Park or sometimes referred to as The Downs, as it has been deemed unsafe.
“There is no safety surfacing at all which there needs to be,” said Marks.
Bears Playgrounds located in Lima looks to be the vendor that would supply the new equipment for the playground.
“We are heavy into fundraising right now,” said Marks. “We have a $17,000 commitment already.”
One fundraising event that is planned to help fund the new playground in Family Fun Day that is scheduled for September 21 at the Avon Driving Park.
“Our goal is to overshoot our funding,” said Marks.
