DANSVILLE – The new year means a new adventure into the realm of the literary for Dansville ArtWorks with the opening of their 2016 visiting authors and writers’ workshops series.
According to a press release from Dansville ArtWorks, the gallery will host authors of various genres each month at the Gallery starting Thursday, Jan. 14, made possible by the writing network of New York City College of Technology Professor George Guida, who is on sabbatical in Dansville this year.
“George’s passion for poetry and fiction is inspiring authors, would-be writers and readers alike,” said Nicole Alioto, President of Dansville ArtWorks. “Our community is richer for this sharing of his art form and assistance with bringing other talented individuals to impart their work and insight with us.”
George read excerpts from three of his five books at Dansville ArtWorks Gallery on Dec. 17.
An open mic will follow each author’s reading or presentation. Each event wraps up with a discussion between the author and audience. All events are free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be provided.
Later in 2016, Guida will lead two monthly workshops. Writing About History and Young Adults Writers’ Group begins Wednesday, Jan. 13 from 6 to 8 p.m. and will help local writers to incorporate the history of their surroundings into their writing, including non-fiction, fiction, poetry, and dramatic writing, by asking them to focus on all phases of the writing process, from research to revision. Cost is $20, registration required.
The Young Adults Writers’ Group (grades 7 to 12) starts Saturday, Mar. 12. Young people’s thoughts, ideas, and opinions shape the world. But how can young people get the world to pay attention? One great way is to set those thoughts, ideas, and opinions down on paper. This workshop will help young people to become young writers, to develop their unique perspectives on the world and put those perspectives into language that matters. Cost is $10, registration required.
