YORK – A woman’s worst nightmare came true Friday night when a Perry man allegedly abducted her in York and kept her against her will throughout the night in his Perry home.
According to a press release from Livingston County Sheriff Thomas Dougherty, Charles Braun, age 66 of Perry, was arrested for Kidnapping in the Second Degree, a Class B Felony, Criminal Contempt in the First Degree, a Class E Felony, and Menacing in the Second Degree, a Class A Misdemeanor, after he fell asleep and the female victim slipped away in the night and went to a nearby house with a light on, and that homeowner called the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office.
It is alleged that Braun abducted the female at gunpoint in the Town of York Friday night and made her drive him to his apartment in the Village of Perry where she was held against her will throughout the night. After Braun fell asleep, the female exited the apartment and went to a house with a light on, who in turn called the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office 911 Center for help.
Previous to this incident, a complete Stay Away Order of Protection had been served on Braun to stay away from the female whom he abducted. Several charges are still pending out of the Village of Perry, Wyoming County as well, but according to the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office, Braun has not been arraigned on any of those charges.
The investigation and arrest were handled by Investigator Dan Rittenhouse from the Criminal Investigation Division of the Sheriff’s Office. Assisting was Captain Norm Zeh, Captain Brian Applin, Investigator Brad Schneider, Sergeant James Merrick, Sergeant Joe Zambito, Deputy Martin Herkimer, Deputy Connor Sanford, Deputy Mike Williams (Evidence Technician), Deputy Brian Mann (Evidence Technician), Deputy Ross Gerace, Livingston County District Attorney Greg McCaffrey, the Perry Police Department, along with the tremendous assistance from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office 911 Dispatchers.
Braun was arrested and arraigned in the York Town Court before Judge Purtell and was remanded to the Custody of the Sheriff on $100,000 cash bail or $200,000 bond. Braun is being held in the Livingston County Jail.
