GENESEO – Geneseo Police are responding to multiple complaints of scammers calling village residents threatening to close their Rochester Gas and Electric (RG&E) accounts and insisting that they pay a fee via Green Dot card.
According to Geneseo Police Chief Eric Osganian, his department has responded to three separate complaints Wednesday morning of someone calling and insisting that they are RG&E, and that whoever answers the phone must pay a fee via Green Dot card to avoid closing their account.
“They always want you to pay with an untraceable Green Dot card,” said Osganian.
Osganian advises anyone within the Village who receives this or a similar call to contact the Geneseo Police Department non-emergency line at (585)243-2420 Ext.4.
