Sheriff Thomas J. Dougherty reports the arrest of a Wyoming County woman on felony charges after a traffic stop. On May 21, 2019 Deputy Michael Yencer stopped a vehicle on State Route 20a in the Town of Leicester for a violation of the NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law.
The operator of the vehicle was identified as 34 year old Janelle M. Cobb of Perry. A records check revealed that Cobb’s driver’s license had been suspended a total of twenty eight (28) times. Cobb was arrested and charged with felony Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle in the 1st Degree along with violations of the Vehicle and Traffic Law.
Cobb was turned over to Central Booking Deputies at the Livingston County Jail for processing and pre-arraignment detention. The District Attorney’s Office was contacted due to the felony level charge. It was advised that Cobb should be held without the chance of bail
per the NYS Criminal Procedure Law due to her having prior felony convictions and a local Justice not having the authority to release.
Cobb was later arraigned at the Livingston County Centralized Arraignment Part (LC-CAP) at the Livingston County Jail before Town of Mt. Morris Judge Robert Ossant. The Judge remanded Cobb to the custody of the Sheriff without the chance of bail.
